Sarum Voices is a semi-professional ensemble based in and around Salisbury. The choir offers a repertoire of both sacred and secular music from every era, and takes delight in the complex challenges offered by these diverse styles.
An inauspicious start (as an emergency replacement for a choir who didn’t turn up to sing at Salisbury Cathedral) has borne great fruit. Under the direction of founder Ben Lamb, Sarum Voices has built an enviable reputation in the studio and on the concert platform and is in constant demand for weddings and other functions.
As well as performing core repertoire, Sarum Voices has its trademark ‘Song & Verse’ concert, which features the off-the-wall poetry of Jonathan Lamb as a foil to music from all walks of life by the full choir and Clean Cut (the choir’s close harmony quartet).
Many of the singers were one-time choristers at Salisbury Cathedral – a connection we nurture. Over the past decade we have built up a pool of some 90 singers, with a core of around 16 who meet for most events. We are careful to maintain a semi-professional modus operandi in line with the choir’s ethos: we bring the passion of the amateur to the exacting standards of the professional.
While much of the choir’s work takes place in and around Wiltshire, its projects often take it further afield: successful tours to Spain, France, and, in 2010, its first “World Tour”, performing in Argentina, Uruguay, and Spain, much enjoyed by singers and audiences alike.
