Listen or buy this album:
“Miniature” is the compilation of 27 small musical pieces for solo harp composed in March 2020 by the harpist (resident in San Sebastian) Francesca Romana Di Nicola. At an interview granted to this magazine last month, the harpist stated: “The time during the pandemic (2020), which then seemed to stand still, is the common denominator common denominator of each piece. Nature is also the protagonist that reflects and governs everyday life. The ocean, the mountains and the exuberant vegetation of the Basque Country inspire the compositions, which make their way, suggesting impressions with incessant rhythms”. In this way, the suggestive sound of the harp (one of the great qualities of this album is to transport us beyond the sound of a harp, even if the harp is the only instrument that plays) recreates music that brings us to and connect us with the natural spirit, with touches of exoticism, melodic beauty (it is taking a long time to incorporate these works as music on a cinematic visual base) and a sound of tremendous beauty, flooding with harmonics every moment. They fly over minimalist spirit, why not, an American touch and melodic repetitions well elaborated to to attract the listener’s attention. The booklet, in four languages (Spanish and Basque included), has the particularity of explaining each “miniature” with precision, delving into the story that Francesca Romana Di Nicola wishes to tell, all threaded together by that strange and inseparable companion that is time: “Meanders “, “Frictions”, “The comings and goings”, “The embrace”, “The non-time”. A very stimulating album.
