A Million Little Diamonds is a song cycle composed by Anthony Cæsar and performed by the soprano Amy Carson and pianist Nicola Rose. The eight movements are settings of poems from A Treasury of Verse for Little Children, first published in 1908.
These eight songs are linked through themes of childhood, nature, farm animals and weather. The poems are characterised by innocence, charm and a lightness of spirit and they are set like nursery rhymes: strophic and syllabic, with simple, short melodic phrases and light-textured piano accompaniment with straightforward harmonies. Their charm is in their simplicity and the melodies are catchy and affecting.
