About this release
Marking Oriel College’s 700th anniversary, this unique collection explores the diverse musical traditions connected with the college.
Drawing on sources from medieval Marian devotion to the Oxford Movement, and from the work of distinguished fellows to contemporary commissions for the chapel choir, it explores the influence and inspiration of the college’s scholars, poets, and musicians over seven centuries, charting an evolving relationship between the college and its cultural life.
Performed by Oriel College Chapel Choir conducted by David Maw, with the Tippett Quartet, organist Alexander Pott, soprano Grace Davidson and guitarist Craig Ogden, the music includes works from medieval plainchant to 21st century composer Judith Bingham, James Whitbourn and Cheryl Frances-Hoad.
